Conditioned Arising
The Buddha’s Core Teaching
For Order members, particularly those involved in Dharma teaching.
2,500 years of Buddhist history have left the modern Western non-sectarian Buddhist with a seeming chaos of doctrines, practices, beliefs, etc. Fortunately, the historical Buddha left us with a core teaching by which we can untangle and test what has been passed down to us - the doctrine of pratitya samutpada - Conditioned Arising. It is the only doctrine associated with the Buddha’s Awakening, and one that can be shown to underpin whatever goes by the name of the Dharma, regardless of place and time.
On this seminar we shall delve into both the samsaric and nirvanic aspects of Conditioned-Arising, and try to fathom their implications for the modern Buddhist practitioner.
The enquiry will be supported by sessions of meditation and guided reflection.
