Type, Personal Myth, Dharma Practice

This seminar is aimed primarily at those who have participated in one of Dhammaloka’s or Simhanada’s introductory workshops on psychological type. I you have acquired a good working knowledge of C.G. Jung’s typology or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator in other ways you are welcome to participate after consultation.

In the first part of the seminar, we will review of our experience of working with psychological type. This will help to consolidate understanding of the basics and give an opportunity to raise and clarify open questions.

For the major part of the seminar, focus will be on type development and spiritual practice, e.g.:

  • How can insight into your own psychological patterns and preferences enhance your Dharma practice? How to practise in a way that both nourishes your strengths and promotes going beyond limitations.
  • How can you help others — as friend or teacher — by taking their type into account?
  • More about the (disturbing and enriching) messages of the inferior functions, in particular how to listen and respond in ways that will conduce to psychological and spiritual health.
  • Discovering and living your ‘personal myth’.
  • What is the place of imagination — in Jungian psychology and as well as in Sangharakshita’s teaching? How can the imaginal faculty be educated in ways that build on one’s psychological dispositions?
