Essential Sangharakshita: Individual, Group, Community

Sangharakshita’s distinctive teachings on the individual, the group, and the spiritual community

Wednesday, 13 October (6pm) to Sunday, 17 October (after lunch)

With Mahamati and Dhammaloka

For Order members and Mitras

Sangharakshita’s teachings on the individual, true and false; the group, positive and negative; and the spiritual community are central to an understanding of the nature of Buddhist practice that is responsive to the needs of the world. The day-to-day working out and deepening of our Going for Refuge can be described both as growth and transcendence of individuality, and as liberation from the group no less than letting go into communion.

In this seminar, we will assume that participants are broadly familiar with Bhante’s teachings on the subject (we will suggest some reading when you book). Our explorations will be practical, including discussion, reflective dialogue, and collective shrine room practice.

Themes we are likely to explore:

  • How can we be aware of and responsive to our own needs no less than to others’ needs?
  • To what extent have we freed ourselves from the power mode of group membership?
  • How do we experience and relate to spiritual hierarchy?
  • How can we deepen our practice of Sangha … and participate in the ‘third order of consciousness

Suggested donation: £120. Accommodation: £15/10 per night.

Please book early. Our teachers put a lot of preparation into the seminars — sometimes several weeks of work. We would find it irresponsible to let them do all that and then cancel the even at short notice due to lack of participants.

If you consider attending, but aren’t as yet certain, please let us know. By booking early, you can help us prevent disappointment on all sides.
