Transcending Views
Monday, 28 June (6pm) to Sunday, 4 July (after lunch)
With Jnanaketu, Santasiddhi, and Dhammaloka
This seminar is offered to Order members wishing to prepare themselves to lead study on the new mitra training module “Transcending Views”. It will also be of interest to anyone who wants to examine this crucial area of the Buddha’s teaching. The module itself examines five important kinds of wrong view, identifies corresponding right views, and the reasons why the Buddha taught that ultimately we need to go beyond all views. It also looks at the ways in which the question of views was approached by the Madhyamika and Yogacara.
We’ll be assuming that you will have read the text and tutor’s notes for the module before the seminar. If you are able to inform us in good time beforehand what issues are of particular concern to you, we will take that into account, but in any case we will be focussing on key ideas in the module. Our main aim is to work practically with views on the three levels of wisdom – hearing, thinking about, and contemplation, and to introduce you to individual, paired and group dialogical approaches to meditative reflection.
The Madhyamaloka garden’s leafy and colourful summer maturity may well provide us with ideal conditions for quiet reflection.
Suggested donation: £210. Accommodation: £15/10 per night.
Please book early. Our teachers put a lot of preparation into the seminars — sometimes several weeks of work. We would find it irresponsible to let them do all that and then cancel the even at short notice due to lack of participants.
If you consider attending, but aren’t as yet certain, please let us know. By booking early, you can help us prevent disappointment on all sides.
