Dana Economy
Dharma-dana or: why we don’t ask you to pay
Following a time-honoured Buddhist practice, at Dharmapala College we don’t want to charge you for attending our events. The Dharma has been given to us by our teachers. What we have learnt, we want to freely pass on, and we trust that you will give what you can.
We have therefore decided to offer our work in a spirit of dana. How finances will work out, we don’t yet know. If you and others with you find practising with Dharmapala College worthwhile, economic needs are likely to be met.
We do ask you, though, to contribute a non-returnable deposit of £30 for a weekend (£50 for longer events). Apart from that it is up to you. Whatever you give will be fine with us. (Please note that this does not include accommodation at our events in Birmingham. This is catered for by another charity, and we must ask you to contribute £15 per night, £10 concession, all including breakfast.)
In the course of each event we will make a dana appeal. This will include some suggestions about what we need to cover our costs. The figures given for each event on this website are meant to give you an orientation about what we are likely to suggest.
If you are happy to give more, you will thus make it easier for others who can’t give so much. If you give less, the surplus from others may help us to meet the balance. If you wish to speak to a member of the team about financial contributions please phone us or ask when you arrive.
We are a registered UK charity. If you are a taxpayer and fill in a Gift Aid Form for your donation, this will increase the value of your donation at no extra cost to yourself.
